About This Course Pack
Mathematics of Finance is a first-year course introducing topics including simple interest formulas, payments, promissory notes, market price and rate of return for treasury bills, load repayment and amortization schedules, compound interest, annuities, bond discounts and premiums, market price of bonds and net present value. The course is comprised of lesson plans designed to be used in conjunction with a workbook and video tutorials. The instructor may use any mathematics of finance open textbook as a supplement however, it is not necessary and learning outcomes can easily be met by following the workbook.
While the course is adaptable, this course was created as a way of easily using the “flipped-classroom” approach. In this approach, the instructor completes an example and the class is then given time to work through an example. Students share their work with their peers to compare answers (known as “Think-Pair-Share”).
