About This Course Pack
This first-year course introduces students to entrepreneurship as an approach to life and to creating their own careers. Through foundational concepts and frameworks, it examines entrepreneurship as a process, including forming an entrepreneurial identity, opportunity creation and evaluation, mobilizing resources, and growth. The course is designed around the major stages in this process, and an overview of factors that are key to entrepreneurial success is provided.
The course is divided into four units, each taking 2 to 4 weeks to complete. For the first two units, students are assigned reflection activities that allow them to understand entrepreneurship and begin developing their skills as an entrepreneur. At the end of each unit, students complete an assignment that consolidates learning from the weekly activities. For the final assignment, students create an entrepreneurial plan.
This course has been designed for an 11- to 12-week semester and is aligned with the open textbook Introduction to Entrepreneurship by Katherine Carpenter, which features videos with transcripts, interactive H5P activities, and many of the activities included in this course pack.
